Should Christians Observe Easter, Christmas, and Halloween?

Should Christians Observe Easter?

No, Christians should not observe Easter.

Observing the resurrection of Jesus would be worshiping Him. We are commanded to worship God. We should not worship Jesus now or pray to Him.

Luke 4:8: “And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.”

Revelation 19:10: “And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”

Revelation 22:8-9

8 “And I John saw these things, and heard them. And when I had heard and seen, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel which shewed me these things.”

9 “Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God.”

We are not commanded to observe the resurrection of Jesus. We are commanded to observe the Passover which is Jesus’ death.

I Corinthians 11:24-26

24 “And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.”

25 “After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, this cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.”

26 “For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come.”

Easter bunnies and eggs do not have anything to do with Jesus’ resurrection. Although Christians say they are not worshiping the sun, their Easter sunrise service is similar to the way pagans worshiped the sun.

Easter sunrise services are a tradition of man.

Study Ezekiel 8:6-18.

Ezekiel 8:6-18

6 “He said furthermore unto me, Son of man, seest thou what they do? even the great abominations that the house of Israel committeth here, that I should go far off from my sanctuary? but turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations.”

7 “And he brought me to the door of the court; and when I looked, behold a hole in the wall.”

8 “Then said he unto me, Son of man, dig now in the wall: and when I had digged in the wall, behold a door.”

9 “And he said unto me, Go in, and behold the wicked abominations that they do here.”

10 “So I went in and saw; and behold every form of creeping things, and abominable beasts, and all the idols of the house of Israel, pourtrayed upon the wall round about.”

11 “And there stood before them seventy men of the ancients of the house of Israel, and in the midst of them stood Jaazaniah the son of Shaphan, with every man his censer in his hand; and a thick cloud of incense went up.”

12 “Then said he unto me, Son of man, hast thou seen what the ancients of the house of Israel do in the dark, every man in the chambers of his imagery? for they say, the Lord seeth us not; the Lord hath forsaken the earth.”

13 “He said also unto me, Turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations that they do.”

14 “Then he brought me to the door of the gate of the Lord’s house which was toward the north; and, behold, there sat women weeping for Tammuz.”

15 “Then said he unto me, Hast thou seen this, O son of man? turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations than these.”

16 “And he brought me into the inner court of the Lord’s house, and, behold, at the door of the temple of the Lord, between the porch and the altar, were about five and twenty men, with their backs toward the temple of the Lord, and their faces toward the east; and they worshipped the sun toward the east.”

17 “Then he said unto me, Hast thou seen this, O son of man? Is it a light thing to the house of Judah that they commit the abominations which they commit here? for they have filled the land with violence, and have returned to provoke me to anger: and, lo, they put the branch to their nose.”

18 “Therefore will I also deal in fury: mine eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity: and though they cry in mine ears with a loud voice, yet will I not hear them.”

Study Ezekiel 9.

Should Christians Observe Christmas?

No. Christians should not observe Christmas.

Observing Christmas is worshiping Jesus.

We are commanded to worship God.

Luke 4:8: “And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.”

Revelation 19:10: “And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellow servant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”

We keep the Passover in remembrance of Jesus.

In the Old Testament many people worshiped multiple gods in various ways.

The Lord tells us we cannot worship Him in the same way they worshiped their gods. He will not accept this. He tells us not to learn the way of the heathen.

Some people worshiped their god with a decorated tree. This pagan custom has been adopted into Christianity by worshiping Jesus Christ with a Christmas tree. The Lord will not accept this.

Jeremiah 10:1-5

1 “Hear ye the word which the Lord speaketh unto you, O house of Israel:”

2 “Thus saith the Lord, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.”

3 “For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.”

4 “They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.”

5 “They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.”

We are not commanded to observe Jesus’ birthday.

We are not to use trees, lights, bells, mistletoe, or any objects like these in our worship.

December twenty-fifth is not Jesus’ birthday. We do not know the date of Jesus’ birth.

The story of Santa Claus is not true. Santa Claus is a fictional character and does not have anything to do with Christ’s birth.

The Lord knows who is naughty or nice, not Santa Claus.

The birthright belongs to Jesus, and we will worship Him when He returns as King of kings.

The Lord gives us the weekly Sabbath Day and seven annual Holy Days to remember Him and His plan of Salvation. The Annual Holy Days are the Passover, The Days of Unleavened Bread, Pentecost, The Feast of Trumpets, The Day of Atonement, The Feast of Tabernacles, and The Last Great Day.

When Jesus returns, He will do away with man’s feast days – Christmas, Easter, Halloween, etc.

Deuteronomy 12:29-32

29 “When the Lord thy God shall cut off the nations from before thee, whither thou goest to possess them, and thou succeedest them, and dwellest in their land;”

30 “Take heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them, after that they be destroyed from before thee; and that thou enquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise.”

31 “Thou shalt not do so unto the Lord thy God: for every abomination to the Lord, which he hateth, have they done unto their gods; for even their sons and their daughters they have burnt in the fire to their gods.”

32 “What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it.”

Hosea 2:11, “I will also cause all her mirth to cease, her feast days, her new moons, and her sabbaths, and all her solemn feasts.”

Amos 5:21, “I hate, I despise your feast days, and I will not smell in your solemn assemblies.”

The Israelites took up the ways of the Canaanites. They sacrificed upon the tops of mountains and burned incense upon the hills, under oaks and poplars and elm trees.

Hosea 4:13, “They sacrifice upon the tops of the mountains, and burn incense upon the hills, under oaks and poplars and elms, because the shadow thereof is good: therefore your daughters shall commit whoredom, and your spouses shall commit adultery.”

Deuteronomy 12:2, “Ye shall utterly destroy all the places, wherein the nations which ye shall possess served their gods, upon the high mountains, and upon the hills, and under every green tree:”

Numbers 33:52

The Israelites thought the higher the hill the greater the spiritual power.

The Israelites considered trees special manifestations of the earth’s power.

The heathens worshipped their god with a decorated tree.

Jeremiah 10:1-5

Many Christians decorate a tree in observance of the birth of Jesus Christ.

This should not be so. The tree would be an idol. The Lord will not accept this.

Should Christians Observe Halloween?

Christians should not observe Halloween.

Many people view taking part in Halloween as a way for them and their children to have innocent fun.

Halloween is an occasion to make contact with the spirits of dead people.

Vampires, werewolves, witches, zombies, and etc. are associated with the evil spirit world.

The ancient Celts tied to appease wicked spirits with sweets. This custom became Halloween’s trick or treat.

The Celts wore frightening masks so the evil spirits would think they were also spirits and would leave them alone. Now trick or treaters go from house to house wearing costumes of saints, angels, devils, etc.

Carved candlelit turnips were displayed to repel evil spirits. The candle represented a soul trapped in purgatory.

Now carved pumpkins are used.

Halloween started out as All Hallow’s Day (also known as All Saints Day) and is a holiday to honor dead saints.

The evening before the day was called All Hallow Evening. This was later shortened to Halloween.

The Lord will not accept such activities.

Leviticus 19:31, “Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the Lord your God.”

Deuteronomy 18:10-12

10 “There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch.”

11 “Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.”

12 “For all that do these things are an abomination unto the Lord: and because of these abominations the Lord thy God doth drive them out from before thee.”

Galatians 5:19-21

19 “Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,”

20 “Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,”

21 “Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.”

Observing Halloween is disobeying the Lord.

Many people do not read and study God’s Word as we are commanded.

I Thessalonians 5:21, “Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.”

II Timothy 2:15, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

People tend to follow the crowd.

Hosea 4:6, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.”
