Past Sin and Present Sin

Jesus’ blood covers our past sins.

Romans 3:25: “Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;”

When we sin, our heavenly Father forgives us and then chastises us as a father chastises his son. His chastisement is our judgment for our present sins.

1 Peter 4:17: “For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?”

I Corinthians 11:32: “But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.”

Hebrews 12:5-11

5 “And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:”

6 “For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.”

7 “If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?”

8 “But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.”

9 “Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?”

10 “For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.”

11 “Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.”

Revelation 3:19: “As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.”

Psalms 6:1: “O Lord, rebuke me not in thine anger, neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.”

Psalms 38:1: “O Lord, rebuke me not in thy wrath: neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.”

Psalms 118:18: “The Lord hath chastened me sore: but he hath not given me over unto death.”

The Lord’s chastisement is His judgment of us for the sins that we commit after we have received the Holy Spirit.
